Former Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre has told Anthony Martial he needs to improve in training, despite the striker wanting a move away.
The striker hasn’t said anything himself, although new interim boss Ralf Rangnick has told him he should speak to him directly if he plans on making an exit soon.
Martial has since been linked with the likes Sevilla, Barcelona, Newcastle and Juventus, while he currently remains out of action at United through injury.
His chances have been limited this season, but Silvestre has told his fellow Frenchman he needs to up his game, even if he is eyeing up a move away.
“I know what it’s like when you feel you’re not loved or appreciated, you feel a need to move on,” Silvestre told the Express via Freebets.com.
“But if you’re top, the manager will play you. Top in training, top on the pitch.
“You’ve got to show it in training, if not it’s easy to find excuses.
“It’s important for him to play. Especially because I think he wants to go to the World Cup.”
Silvestre is also backing United to finish in the top four this season ahead of another of his former clubs, Arsenal.
The Gunners currently hold the advantage in the race for the final Champions League spot, with Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea looking I strong positions to claim the top three.
Mikel Arteta’s side sit five points ahead of United at the moment, although the Reds have a couple of games in hand, with Silvestre giving them his backing in the race.

“They have better players and they have Cristiano Ronaldo, they have England’s second captain in Harry Maguire and they’ve got leaders that are dying to win trophies.”
