A boxing trainer stormed the ring with a towel to call off Richard Riakporhe’s bout with Fabio Turchi after a sickening blow.
Riakporhe caught his Italian opponent with a brutal body shot, that caught Turchi in the stomach, midway into the second. The Italian immediately crumbled to the ground as the referee started the count, which the Italian eventually beat.
However, the bout never restarted after Turchi’s trainer stormed the ring, towel in hand, to call off the bout – handing Riakporhe the win. And boxing fans have praised Turchi’s corner after stopping their man from taking any more unneeded punishment.
One fan tweeted: “Excellent shot, and even better from Turchi’s corner. Absolutely no need whatsoever to let your man get absolute sparked there. Sickening shot.”
“Turchi’s corner should take a lot of credit for that stoppage for having their man’s best interests at heart,” a second added. While a third said: “Very very good decision by Turchi’s corner there.”
And a fourth added: Turchi’s corner man with the best work I’ve seen in ages. He knew his man was badly hurt. Fair play to him.”

Riakporhe, who remains undefeated, is now expected to turn his attention to an all-British bout with Lawrence Okolie.
Ahead of Saturday’s bout BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom said: “I think it’s a fight Lawrence would like, I think he wants the big domestic fights.
“He knows that’s what sells in the UK and it’s amazing to have two guys at the top of the division both from Britain, both from London, that is the most exciting thing.”
