Jennifer Grey recalls Patrick Swayze tearfully apologising for his behaviour in movie they starred in before Dirty Dancing


Jennifer Grey has revealed she initially didn’t wish to star reverse Patrick Swayze within the traditional film Dirty Dancing. That is till he tearfully apologised for his previous behaviour. 

Although the co-stars had plain chemistry on the set of the 1987 dance flick, they didn’t see eye-to-eye three years prior when starring collectively in Red Dawn.

It was whereas filming this motion film that Grey determined she was not a fan of the actor. Not solely did he act like “the boss of everybody” on the New Mexico set of Red Dawn, however he would apparently play “pranks” on her that she didn’t admire.

“It was just like macho and I just couldn’t take it,” Grey, 62, stated this week when showing on The View to advertise her new memoir, Out of the Corner. “I was just like, ‘Please, this guy, enough with him.'”

So when Dirty Dancing producers introduced Swayze can be her main man within the film, she was understandably hesitant and wanted the actor to persuade him he was the Johnny Castle to her Frances “Baby” Houseman.

“He pulled me down the hall and said to me, ‘I love you, I love you and I’m so sorry. I know you don’t want me to do the movie,'” Grey recalled. “And he got the tears in his eyes. And I got the tears in my eyes, not for the same reason. And he goes, ‘We could kill it, we could kill it if we did this.'”

The actress was nonetheless not satisfied, adamant he was simply telling her what she needed to listen to. It wasn’t till they started display checks for Dirty Dancing that she quickly gave in to his charms.

“We go in there and he takes me in his arms and I’m like, ‘Oh, boy,'” she remembered, including there was then “no competition” between Swayze and another actor eager to play Johnny. “He was like the easy chair I’d been dreaming of.”

Grey has at all times been open about her pressure with Swayze. In an interview with People journal earlier this yr, she admitted they “weren’t a natural match”, much like how their respective characters, Baby and Johnny, have been “not supposed to be together”.

“Because normally when someone’s not a natural match, you … both people move on, but we were forced to be together,” she informed the journal. “And our being forced to be together created a kind of a synergy, or like a friction.”

“I actually just had a thought about Patrick,” she added of her co-star, who died of pancreatic most cancers in 2009, aged 57. “I feel like if I could say anything to him now I would say, ‘I’m so sorry that I couldn’t just appreciate and luxuriate in who you were, instead of me wishing you were more like what I wanted you to be.'”
