Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has praised current Reds’ shot stopper David de Gea for his performances since Ralf Rangnick’s arrival.
The 31-year-old showed exactly why he has started all 17 of United’s Premier League games so far this season, with some terrific saves in Monday’s draw against Newcastle.
Despite only keeping five clean sheets this season, it is De Gea’s form that has single-handedly kept Dean Henderson out of the side and impressed pundits along the way.
No more so than former United captain, Robson, who believes the plaudits should lie with United’s number one.
Speaking to United Review, the 64-year-old began: ”The early signs have been good [under Ralf Rangnick].
‘’In the opening months of the season, we maybe got in between whether we’d counterattack or press, and that’s when we started conceding far too many goals.
‘’I thought Michael Carrick did a terrific job as caretaker over three big games because he and the players were right under pressure, but they secured Champions League qualification and took four points from Chelsea and Arsenal – really tough games considering the situation we were in – and those were terrific results.
‘’Since then, the early results under Ralf have been good, without giving goals away.
‘’David de Gea has played a big part in that and confidence should be back on the up among the defence and the team as a whole now.”
