Maupay leads the way in ranking of ridiculous Brighton’s 16 PL goals by ridiculousness

Brighton scored two very good goals to beat Brentford and break their winless streak on Boxing Day. It takes their season tally of goals to 16. Few of those have been simple and most of them have been ridiculous for one reason or another.

We’ve ranked them by ridiculousness, from least ridiculous to most…

16) Leandro Trossard v Newcastle
A penalty. We move on.

15) Alexis Mac Allister v Manchester City
Another penalty. Nothing between them really. More ridiculous as it’s City.

14) Neal Maupay v Leicester
Another penalty. Slightly more ridiculous as Maupay was clearly fouling Jannik Vestergaard as he handled to concede the penalty.

13) Neal Maupay v Burnley
A Jakub Moder cross from the byline, tapped in from a yard out. A bit ridiculous as it’s the sort of chance the most ridiculous Premier League player would normally miss because he’s so ridiculous.

12) Shane Duffy v Watford
It’s a great header and in off the bar is, well, not ridiculous. Nice, though.

11) Danny Welbeck v Leicester
A lovely glancing header and a bit ridiculous as Welbeck was on the pitch long enough to score a goal.

10) Alexis Mac Allister v Burnley
Smashes the ball away in celebration after a 78th-minute winner as though it’s the most ridiculous goal Brighton will score this season. O ye of little faith.

9) Neal Maupay v Watford
Ridiculous pressing against ridiculous defending.

8) Neal Maupay v Brentford

7) Leandro Trossard v Liverpool
A lovely drop of the shoulder and quick feet to go past Andy Robertson. A goal to draw level with Liverpool having been 2-0 down is a bit ridiculous.

6) Leandro Trossard v Brentford
*Googles synonym of ridiculous* An absurd finish. But not this player’s most ridiculous goal against this team this season.

5) Leandro Trossard v Brentford
A 90th-minute winner of this quality only just making the top five is telling. Trossard beat two Brentford players on the edge of the box before curling the ball into the corner. A goal worthy of winning any game but not very ridiculous, all goals considered.

4) Enok Mwepu v Liverpool
Outrageous attempt – stunningly ridiculous goal.

3) Neal Maupay v West Ham
Here he is again, being ridiculous, equalising in the 88th minute with that.

2) Neal Maupay v Palace
So ridiculous the Sky Sports camera missed the assist. A 95th-minute equaliser should be peak ridiculousness.

1) Neal Maupay v Southampton
98th minute. Ridiculous touch. Ridiculous celebration. Ridiculous footballer.
