When will the fixtures be released?

The 2022/23 fixtures are set to be released at 9am on Thursday, June 16.

The fixtures will be subject to change when the radio and TV companies have their picks.

And the FA Cup and Carabao Cup will also lead to changes as the campaign progresses.

How are the fixtures worked out?

Contrary to popular opinion, some random fixture generator doesn’t decide the Premier League fixtures.

Instead, schedulers first input all international, European club and cup games into the calendar.

The Premier League games are then picked in the dates that are free.

The fixtures are then separated into ‘sequencing’ with five match weeks built at a time.

Within each block, teams get three home ties and two away, with the process reversed.

Each club are placed into a ‘pairing grid’, which confirms each home match, with fixtures then mixed randomly to finalise the details of every clash.

This system prevents teams playing successive home or away games at the start or end of the season to avoid an unfair disadvantage.

Rules surrounding broadcasting prevent an exact replication of fixtures in the second half of the season with game weeks 1 to 19 not mirrored in 20 to 38.
